Marsh McLennan, the Bermuda branch of the global insurance broker and risk advisory firm, made the Top Ten Employers for the third time.

Employees talk about a strong, collaborative and respectful culture, in which teamwork flourishes, and a competitive compensation and benefits package.

One said: “We have a wonderful culture of warmth, friendliness, engagement, appreciation! It’s the best I’ve seen in any office I’ve worked in throughout Ireland, the UK and Australia. It’s a credit to senior management and makes coming to work every day so much easier!”

Another said: “Diversity of thought is encouraged from the ground up, and working as a team towards a common goal is at the core of delivering excellent service.”

The strong sense of togetherness embodied by the Marsh culture was described thus by one employee: “It’s a team – we win and lose together. There is a no blame culture.”

Marsh’s mentorship programmes are key to its talent development strategy. The Rising Professional Colleague Resource Group (CRG) and the Women’s CRG each pair junior staff with senior colleagues. The company’s internship programme welcomes between three and ten Bermudian students for work experience each summer.

The company also supports scholarships awarded by the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies, the Association of Bermuda International Companies and Teen Services.

The benevolent culture extends outside the business, with Marsh supporting numerous community causes. As one staff member put it: “Leadership seems genuinely caring and invested in the wellbeing of staff which, in turn, always has a positive and indirect effect on the wellbeing of the community as well.”

Beneficiaries of donations and staff volunteering include Keep Bermuda Beautiful, nurseries on World Book Day, Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church’s feeding programme, YMSC’s football club, Windreach, the End to End, Bermuda Pride and the Family Centre.
