Artex Bermuda has made Bermuda’s Top Ten Employers for the sixth time, a track record that started with Horseshoe Group, the company acquired by Artex in 2019. The insurance-linked securities and reinsurance advisory firm has a strong culture built on the “Gallagher Way”. This is a “code of constants in an ever-changing business” adopted by parent group Gallagher to reflect its core values of empathy, engagement, expertise and excellence.
Staff comments in the survey suggest the company’s leaders live by these values. One employee said: “The CEO is a dynamic and hardworking leader. It starts from the top — they talk the talk, but also walk the walk, making employee engagement a priority in all divisions.”
Benefits include full healthcare coverage, 13 weeks’ maternity leave, a share purchase scheme that allows staff to purchase common shares of Gallagher at a 5 per cent discount, and bonuses.
Artex supports it employees’ professional development up the career ladder. Management training is mandatory for all managers, to ensure they have resources and guidance to be effective team leaders, while the Accelerate Programme is a leadership programme for high-performing individuals, which includes working on projects with executive sponsors.
The company also provides a scholarship through the ABIC Education Awards, awarded on a combination of academic achievement and financial need, to support a Bermudian student’s pursuit of higher education.
Artex supports the third sector, both through donations and through staff rolling up their sleeves to help. Employees visit HOME once a month to prepare a meal for about 25 homeless people.
The company has a matching donation scheme of up to $1,000 for up to ten Bermudian charities. On Artex’s most recent Day of Giving, employees spent a full day at government rest homes, painting and gardening to spruce up the surroundings.
