LED lightbulbs are stepping into the spotlight as more than just energy-efficient replacements for traditional lighting.

We stopped by Baptiste Limited to chat with store owner and manager Sacha Bearden about the latest innovations for home lighting and safety.
Smart bulbs for home use
“One of the most useful products has got to be our Sylvania Smart+ lightbulbs,” Ms Bearden said.
“You just install one of these bulbs in a light socket and then connect it to a device like Alexa or Google Home using Wi-Fi.
“Once you have done this you can control the lighting in the room using just the sound of your voice. No more stumbling around in the dark trying to find the light switch when you come home at night – or having to get out of bed to turn off the lights before you go to sleep – you just say something like ‘Alexa turn on the light, or Google Home turn off the light’.
“Because of their smart technology, you can also change the color of the light that the bulb emits or even dim the lighting using a voice command.”
Under the counter lighting
Another simple upgrade for your kitchen is LED tape lighting. Unlike traditional under-the-counter lighting, which is hardwired to a light switch, tape lighting can be installed using an adhesive strip and then plugged into any regular outlet, making it a budget-friendly DIY project for renters and homeowners.
Outdoor lighting
If you are on a budget, improving your home security can be as simple as installing dusk-to-dawn LED bulbs in your outdoor lighting fixtures.
“Feit makes an LED bulb which doesn’t require any additional hardware or special app to operate it because it contains a built-in dusk-to-dawn sensor that automatically turns the bulb on when the sun goes down and then turns off at sunrise,” she said.
“These are inexpensive to operate, making them great for your patio, dock or any dark outdoor space that you want to illuminate. And you never have to worry about remembering to turn them on.”
