“I started my business by customising cellphones,” Mr Pearman said. “I’d take them completely apart and replace the entire body with a different colour. At the time, most phones only came in one or two colours, so it gave people something unique.”

Ask Mr Pearman what customers want most from a new smartphone and he doesn’t hesitate.
“The first question everyone asks is, ‘Is the camera nice?’”

Mr Pearman has noticed that bigger screens continue to be popular.
“As long as it fits in their pocket, I don’t think the screen could be too big for anyone.”

Rather than replacing people, he sees AI as a practical tool that helps us all work more efficiently.
“AI is a powerful tool for research and fleshing out ideas,” he said.
That technology is already making its way into consumer products. Portable speakers with built-in AI and smart glasses that respond to voice commands are becoming increasingly common.
“It’s still in the early stages,” he said. “No doubt it will have as big an impact as the internet has on society.”
